The Clergy Enrichment Grant Application Process

Grants from the Fund’s Clergy Enrichment Program provide support for clergy in three areas: education, personal development and professional development. Grants are limited to $4,000 annually. All ordained or authorized ministers who serve full-time in the pastoral ministry at any eligible religious organization may apply.

Education: Grant funds may support educational activities (including tuition, books, fees, and room and board expenses for those studying in an accredited degree program). Applicants should submit a copy of the school’s application materials, the letter of acceptance issued by the school and a budget for the use of grant proceeds. Grant funds can also be used to pay for clergy to attend conferences, workshops and continuing education opportunities.

Professional Development: Grants funds may support a short leave for clergy, either by supporting the direct costs of the leave or the cost of retaining replacement pastors during the leave period. (The Fund expects that the congregation will continue to pay the pastor’s salary during the leave.) Applicants must submit a letter of release and support from the church governing body; a resume or short biography; description of the proposed leave including goals and objectives; three references, with contact information; a budget. Clergy who are approved must submit a report at the conclusion of the professional leave, outlining objectives achieved and benefits of the experience.

Personal Development: Grant funds may support opportunities to re-energize and enjoy recreation, and personal time alone or with the clergy’s spouse and/or family. Grant funds may also be used to pay for memberships to YMCA, golf courses or athletic facilities. Applicants should include copies of receipts, subscription forms, application and registration forms, membership forms and other relevant documents.
